PLANTING FOR THE NEEDY:  Worldhotels hoteliers planted vegetables in support of a school for the handicapped in Wuxi, China. The programme is organised by Worldhotel Grand Juna Hotel Wuxi, Worldhotels’ first branded hotel in China.

Staff at Worldhotels offices around the globe recently participated in a joint effort to assist in local volunteer projects as the hotel group celebrated its first World Community Day on 14 September.

Aimed at making an active contribution towards Worldhotels’ local communities, the initiative saw staff from offices in Germany, Spain, China, the United States and many other countries devote a full working day to helping out with their chosen social, environmental and humanitarian projects.  World Community Day builds on Worldhotels’ Sustainability Policy, launched earlier this year, which emphasizes the group’s position on operating responsibly within its business and local landscapes.

 “We already have some great programmes in place to manifest our social responsibility, but with World Community Day we took it a step further by giving all our staff around the world a free day to make an individual contribution to their local communities in their own way,” explains Worldhotels’ Managing Director Robert Hornman.

Worldhotels hoteliers from Frankfurt, Singapore, Australia, Japan, India, China and Hong Kong led by Roland Jegge, Executive Vice President Asia Pacific and Paulo Salvador, Global Vice President of Marketing and Sales went ‘green’ in support of needy children during their Asia-Pacific conference at Worldhotel Grand Juna Hotel Wuxi, the global network’s first branded hotel in China.

They planted vegetables at Wuxi Chong’an District Auxiliary School for the handicapped and disabled, working alongside teachers and students from the school.

They also brought snacks, drinks and toys, and contributed 2,500 RMB to support the  programme sponsored by Worldhotel Grand Juna Hotel Wuxi.

Founded in 1984, the school was the first in China founded by the government for children with intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, autism and multiple disabilities. The spinach, eggplant and chillies planted in the vegetable beds will be nurtured by the youngsters and cooked for them when harvested.
