Rail Europe 4A, the #1 distributor of rail tickets and passes worldwide, has reported a year-on-year increase of 21% on sales and a 23% increase on passenger number. Rail Europe accumulated sales at the end of July reached €133 million and expects to exceed €200 million by the end of this year.
Increases were seen across all regions. The Greater China market (including China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) showed growth of 25% equivalent to €11 million on sales and an increase on passenger number by 30%; while in the South East Asian market showed a sales increase by 35% and passengers by 42%.
¡°After all time-high records of 2010 and 2011, the statistics represent Rail Europe¡¯s structural capacity to develop its sales, despite a difficult global economic environment¡± said Pierre-Stephane Austi, CEO of Rail Europe. ¡°Our business model, based on innovation and the excellence of our global distribution, is our best asset to keep on the excellent trend of this first half of 2012¡±.
Rail Europe¡¯s good results benefit from the promotional initiatives that boosted the sales, particularly the "Rail Europe¡¯s 17th Birthday" activities and the ¡°summer promotion¡±. To capitalize on these successes, the company will launch special offers and promotions in November, to entice more travellers to discover Europe by train.
The second half of 2012 will primarily be marked by two major developments: the launch of direct connections to some of the most important European railways, Deustche Bahn and Trenitalia. With these direct connections, Rail Europe customers and travel agents will be able to access the same offers as in Germany or Italy, with real time access to all trains, fares and promotions, as well as advanced functionalities such as e-ticketing.
In a context of economic slowdown and deregulation in the European railways industry, the leadership, dynamism and commitment of Rail Europe are reaffirmed by the company¡¯s ability to continuously offer customers and carrier partners the best platform to book train tickets and rail passes, to Europe and beyond.
