Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) has successfully won its bid to host the First Toastmasters International World Convention outside North America in 2014.
The World Convention will be held in Kuala Lumpur as 30 percent of Toastmasters global members reside outside North America, with the strongest membership growth in South East Asia.
The convention is expected to bring together approximately 2,000 delegates and RM 32.5 million in economic returns.
"Kuala Lumpur is high on the list of international travel destinations. Known for its dazzling high-rises and rich cultural sense, the city is a prime international convention site for many reasons," Toastmasters International executive director Daniel Rex said.
"It is centrally located to a broad membership population which would potentially boost convention attendance higher than it's ever been. We're excited to host our convention in this wonderful city."
Malaysia's popularity and penchant for MICE events is ever-increasing.
The news comes after MyCEB hosted a media breakfast in Sydney at the Gin Garden this week.
"Malaysia represents the many cultures of Asia in a safe environment. Malaysia is seen as a role model amongst emerging economies," MyCEB general manager Ping Ho said.
The number of international business tourism visitors to Malaysia has increased by an estimated 133 percent since 2003.
MyCEB's goal is to grow international business tourism visitors from 5 percent to 8 percent by 2020.
Last year MyCEB supported 29 convention bids and 20 corporate incentive groups, representing 35,750 delegates and an economic value of RM 382 million.
MyCEB also assisted 130 meetings and conventions, 6 exhibitions and 62 corporate incentive groups, contributing approximately RM 1 billion to the Malaysia economy.MyCEB's recent appointment of Australian representatives GainingEdge in May 2012 will help the Bureau provide market support for Australian and New Zealand meeting and incentive planners considering Malaysia for upcoming events.
