Germany: MICE on the rise, record results
Germany¡¯s continued success in the meetings and events industry throughout 2011 has garnered record-breaking results over the previous year.
338 million participants, across 2.72 million events equated to a 4.5 percent increase in MICE visitor numbers and a 1.2 percent boost in the amount of events held in last year.
The Meeting & Event Barometer 2012 has revealed a 3 percent rise year-over-year in the number of conference event sites in Germany, while the European country remains the number two destination worldwide for MICE.
¡°Germany's global image as a location for events is getting better and better. This was once again impressively confirmed by the Meeting & Event Barometer. Operators from around the world appreciate the high quality and good price-performance ratio of German suppliers,¡± Petra Hedorfer, CEO German National Tourist Board (GNTB) said.
Matthias Schultze, managing director German Convention Bureau (GCB) said that maintaining these trends in Germany would mean developing partnerships, combining efforts and perpetuating focus.
¡°Germany has further reinforced its position as the meetings and conventions country number one in Europe and number two worldwide this year. But the competition is continually growing stronger.
¡°Therefore, we must make use of the current uptrend to recognize future trends early focus our offers and marketing accordingly and create synergies. That is the only way to maintain our position in the future,¡± Mr Schultze said.
According to the Meeting & Event Barometer 2012, event organisers feel positive about the future development of conferences and events, predicting growth for meetings and conferences.
Only 56 percent of organisers have adapted social networking tools, such as social media giant Facebook, as part of their MICE platform.
Banks and insurance companies made up 20.5 percent of all key clients in attendance at events realised by commercial enterprises.
