Domestic fares within the Asia Pacific region shot up the highest during the fourth quarter last year with a four percent increase over the same period the prior year. An American Express Business Travel Monitor report found that while the EMEA region saw fares fall one percent and the US remained relatively flat, Asia Pacific¡¯s healthy business environment and regional opportunities contributed to an airfare rise. American Express Advisory Services head of the Asia-Pacific region Dr Carl Jones said the Eurozone crisis and weak UK economy also played a role in the rising Asia Pacific domestic price of flights as well as increased demand for intra Asia Pacific travel. Year on year the region¡¯s domestic tickets escalated by three percent, a push Dr Jones said may have been from increasing fuel prices. The specialists added that although the region¡¯s fares were on the rise last year, things could slow down in 2012. ¡°To date, Asia Pacific has been a happy island in a sea of economic global uncertainty but with the approach of slowing growth rates in the region, this may change and we may see that fares within the region begin to stabilize,¡± the Dr noted. |
