India has welcomed 9.2 percent more international arrivals during January 2012 compared to the corresponding month last year. According to figures released by the Ministry of Tourism (MOT), the increase comes alongside double-digit growth of arrivals into Asia despite the world’s economic conditions remaining unstable, The Times of India reported. Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management professor Sandeep Kulshreshtha said the industry made a turn into a positive direction after it was dubbed safe during its time hosting the world cup cricket finals and the CWG Games. "Tourism is concerned with disposable income; the moment disposable incomes flourish, tourism flourishes," Mr Kulshreshtha said. “We have a large outbound tourism. “The streets of Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia are filled with Indian tourists. “A large segment of Indian tourists are even going to Europe and Australia. “Though still in its nascent stage, the tourism industry in India is expected to do well for the next 20-25 years." |
