Tuscan tourists encouraged to visit site of cruise tragedy

Tuesday, 21 February 2012

The island of Giglio will be heavily promoted by Tuscany tourism following the recent disaster involving the Costa Concordia.

Located off the coast of Tuscany, the island is poised to suffer economically due to the stigma of the tragedy that took the lives of several passengers last month.

“We will ensure that the island of Giglio is favoured in our campaigns but the main promotion is for everyone to make a gesture of love by going to Giglio,” the head of Tuscany's tourism, Cristina Scaletti said.

Giglio, measures just 24sq km and is part of the Tuscan archipelago - a nature reserve and marine sanctuary.

“I went there last year on holiday and I will be going back this year with my whole family,” Ms Scaletti sad.
