Travellers snub Wonders of the World: survey

Monday, 20 February 2012

Although used to draw in travellers, dubbing an attraction as one of the Wonders of the World is failing to draw in tourism.

According to Hotels.com survey, one in three travellers admitted to never having visited any of the Wonders while a further one in five said they did not even know of their existence, India Blooms reported.

The survey found that among the most popular attractions dubbed Wonders to be visited were Rome¡¯s Colosseum with up to 33 percent of respondents visiting, and the Great Wall of China with 17 percent.

Meanwhile natural and manmade wonders including Machu Picchu had only attracted about five percent while Jordan¡¯s archaeological desert, Petra welcomed six percent of those surveyed.

According to research, ancient wonders were much less appealing to Indian travellers with the Great Pyramids of Giza winning only 28 percent of visitors while Alexandria welcomed 11 percent.
