Travellers from across the globe looking for a different type of adventure, where you can mix charity with luxury, have been invited to spend their time gaining unique and rare experiences at Namibia¡¯s only eco-friendly charity lodge, Naankuse.
Recently receiving support from the Jolie-Pitt foundation, the lodge was designed to help protect the local community and the rare and exotic wildlife through the distribution of profits into volunteer programs designed to help achieve the lodge¡¯s ¡°vision for change¡±.
Launched in 2006 by conservationist Marlice van Vuuren and her husband Dr. Rudie van
Vuuren as part of the N/a¡¯an ku s¨º Foundation, the lodge is located less than 30 minutes away from the airport and within 3,200 hectors of wildlife reserve where zebras, warthogs and giraffes are among exotic animals that wonder around freely.
As well spending the days enjoying the luxurious private view chalets, swimming pool and award winning cuisine guests also have the opportunity to take part in one of the lodge¡¯s volunteer programs.
Volunteers can take part in either the Wildlife Sanctuary for orphaned and injured animals project or the Medical Volunteer program at the Lifeline Clinic, a medical outreach for the community.
¡°Through each of our projects, N/a¡¯an ku s¨º provides an important source of employment and accommodation to several San Bushman [the local community] families,¡± a statement from the lodge read.
¡°The San are considered to be the oldest culture in the world and are traditionally hunter gatherers.¡±
But if its relaxation and unimaginable scenes of beauty you prefer, than guests can just kick back and enjoy as wildlife passes by.
Otherwise guests can also take part in the lodge¡¯s exclusive Behind The Scenes tour of their sanctuary and meet their famous three legged cheetah, Lucky, see carnivore feeding tours of lions, leopards, cheetahs and wild dogs as well as spend time up close with cheetahs and caracals in the beautiful veldt.
Volunteers and guests also have the opportunity to enjoy bird watching and stargazing tours and engage with African wildlife in a truly unique and natural environment.
